In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a former border guard will be tried for desertion and collaboration after he fled from his post following the full-scale invasion by Russian forces and sided with the occupiers. This was reported by "Vідомо" citing the Specialized Prosecutor's Office of the Eastern Region.
The investigation revealed that on February 24, 2024, the chief sergeant unlawfully abandoned his place of service and left the area of operations in the Starobilsk district of Luhansk region.
While on temporarily occupied territory, the 49-year-old man, driven by ideological motives, supported the occupying authorities and began collaborating with the aggressor state, Russia, and representatives of the so-called "LPR." The accused voluntarily took a position in the "Border Guard Service of the Ministry of State Security of the Luhansk People's Republic."
Prosecutors from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Eastern Region have submitted an indictment to the court against the border guard inspector.
He is charged with desertion committed in a state of martial law and voluntarily taking a position in illegal law enforcement agencies established in the temporarily occupied territory (Part 4 of Article 408, Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
