This simple yet crucial procedure can significantly boost yield and help eliminate potential pests and diseases.

1. Freezing

One of the easiest methods is to take the soil outside and leave it for several weeks or throughout the winter. This technique effectively kills insect larvae and pathogens. If the weather is warm, alternate between freezing the soil and warming it indoors.

2. Steaming

If you have a microwave, place the soil in a container and steam it at maximum power for 15-20 minutes.

No microwave? No problem! Use boiling water, put the soil in a fine sieve, and pour the just-boiled water over it. This will eliminate excess pests.

3. Baking

Do you have an oven? Simply load the soil onto a baking tray, preheat the oven to 70-90 degrees Celsius, and bake the soil for 30-40 minutes.

Remember, for maximum effect, do not overheat the soil: this can alter its moisture content and composition.

4. Treatment

If you opt for approved chemical solutions, mix 20 ml of hydrogen peroxide with 1 liter of water. Pour this solution over the soil.

Alternatively, you can dissolve 5 g of potassium permanganate in 10 liters of water for thorough disinfection.
