A resident of Zheltye Vody was charged with a criminal offense for cutting down acacia trees (PHOTO).

Police in Pyatykhatky reported suspicions against a 41-year-old man who illegally cut down acacia trees worth nearly 1.3 million hryvnias. This information was provided by "Vidomo," referencing the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The illegal activities of a resident of Zheltye Vody were uncovered by the police of Kamensky RUP. During the pre-trial investigation, investigators discovered that in October of last year, without any legal grounds, the offender cut down over 130 acacia trees in the territory of the Pyatykhatsky City Council.

According to expert conclusions, the suspect caused environmental damage totaling nearly 1.3 million hryvnias.

The suspect has been informed of the charges against him for committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 246 (illegal logging or illegal transportation, storage, sale of timber) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
