A 37-year-old man has received a life sentence for the murder of a nine-year-old girl from Ukraine in Germany. The perpetrator, who was the former partner of the child's mother, strangled the girl on her way to school following the end of their relationship. This was reported by the publication BILD, as conveyed by "Vydomo."

The court in Germany sentenced 37-year-old Andrei P. to life imprisonment for the murder of nine-year-old Valeria – a girl from the city of Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region, who had come to Germany with her mother after the onset of the Russian invasion. The judges also determined the particular severity of the crime, which almost entirely rules out the possibility of early release for Andrei P. after 15 years.

The tragedy occurred on June 3, 2024. The man tracked the girl on her way to school and strangled her. Afterward, he left Germany but was arrested in Prague 11 days later. He was then extradited back to Germany, where the trial began.

"The man had previously been in contact with Valeria's mother, but a few days before the murder, the woman ended their relationship. According to the investigation, the crime may have been an act of revenge. The court's judgment has become final, and the defendant did not appeal the verdict," the statement reads.
