The primary goal of the project is to align Ukrainian regulations with European standards.
What will change?
According to the proposed changes:
- new categories of licenses will be introduced, taking into account different types of vehicles. In particular, these are:
- AM – for mopeds with a speed of up to 45 km/h;
- A1, A2, A – for motorcycles of various power and sizes;
- B1 – for quad bikes.
New license renewal periods
Drivers with a B category, operating passenger cars, will be required to update their documents every 10 years, whereas currently, this is only necessary once every 30 years.
When will the new rules take effect?
If the bill is supported by the deputies, all existing driver's licenses will need to be replaced by 2033. Thus, Ukrainian drivers are given nearly 10 years to adapt to the new requirements.
This bill is part of the process of integrating Ukrainian legislation into European law. The aim of introducing clear vehicle categories and reducing the validity periods of licenses is to enhance road safety and comply with modern standards.
