According to Oleg Penzin, a member of the Economic Discussion Club, adverse weather conditions may lead to a price increase of 30–50% for potatoes by the beginning of spring, as he stated in comments to “Fakty ICTV.”

Vegetables, being highly sensitive to weather, could become more expensive during the colder months, while a noticeable decrease is expected in May due to seasonal fluctuations that are common in Ukraine. Meanwhile, an increase in egg prices is anticipated due to higher feed costs. However, meat prices are likely to rise only moderately due to a decline in consumer demand for premium products.

Penzin emphasizes that overall price trends in 2025 will heavily depend on the harvest. A good harvest may stabilize prices, while a poor one could lead to a significant increase in the cost of essential goods.

Additionally, the decline in the purchasing power of Ukrainians plays a role in shaping consumer behavior, as people opt for cheaper alternatives.

As an example, Penzin noted that in 2024, while the overall food basket increased in price by 14–15%, meat prices rose by only 2%, reflecting a shift in demand towards more affordable products.

The economist also suggests that product imports may help curb price increases, and it is expected that the exchange rate of the hryvnia will not significantly impact the food market this year.
