This price decline can largely be attributed to a sharp drop in demand. Contrary to expectations that potato prices would rise, wholesale prices have actually decreased. Wholesale companies indicate that there are no incentives to raise prices or purchase large volumes, as consumer demand remains weak.
The price drop has also been influenced by a stable supply of potatoes from external markets, although the low quality of imported tubers has contributed to a slowdown in the sales of local varieties. Key market players note that the mediocre quality of imports has affected the sales pace of domestic products.
Supermarkets continue to sell potatoes at an average price of 32.3 UAH per kg. However, due to the decrease in prices from producers, retail prices are also expected to decline. The current range of retail prices for potatoes in stores is between 27.5 and 40.5 UAH per kg.
On the other hand, carrot prices have significantly increased. Producers are now selling carrots at prices ranging from 23 to 30 UAH per kg, which is 15% higher than at the end of the previous week.
