This information was reported by Main Post, citing “RBC-Ukraine.”
The first aspect pertains to the functioning of power during wartime. Russopoulos emphasized that, despite the military actions, the Ukrainian parliament continues to operate, sessions are conducted in a stable manner, and deputies from all parties participate in the work of PACE.
“My position is to refrain from interfering in Ukraine's internal politics. The political life in the country continues, and parliament operates cohesively,” he noted.
The second aspect is historical experience. The PACE President cited the example of Great Britain during World War II, reminding that even under Winston Churchill's leadership, elections were not held in the country during periods of active military engagement.
“History shows that elections during wartime are the exception, not the rule,” stated Russopoulos.
He also added that no requests related to elections have been made by the Ukrainian opposition in PACE. This indicates that parliamentary forces are focused on supporting the functioning of the state and addressing current challenges.
