During a recent appearance on Day.LIVE, Popenko expressed concern over the energy situation in the country as winter approaches.

Popenko explained that while previously "Naftogaz," the state oil and gas company of Ukraine, could purchase natural gas at a price of 300 dollars per thousand cubic meters, the current rise in prices means that the company will have to spend between 550 and 600 dollars per thousand cubic meters due to its delayed actions in securing necessary supplies.

Despite these challenges, Popenko reassured the public that a complete shutdown of heating services is not anticipated. However, he cautioned that the government may impose restrictions on gas supplies as a precautionary measure to ensure the effective use of available resources during the cold months.

As Ukraine prepares for the arrival of February, low gas reserves and rising energy prices raise concerns about the country's ability to maintain consistent heating during the cold spells.

“Heating supply issues may arise in Ukraine,” - said Oleg Popenko, Head of the Consumers' Union of Utility Services.
