Gas for cooking in apartment buildings will remain available until the pressure in the system drops to critically low levels.

Since the end of 2022, Transnistria has been receiving Russian gas, which is utilized for local needs and electricity generation at the Moldovan State District Power Station, supplying electricity to all of Moldova.

Meanwhile, the right bank of Moldova receives gas from European markets. Throughout this entire period, payments for the supplied gas have not been made.

On December 28, 2024, Gazprom made an official announcement that it would cease gas supplies to Moldova due to the ongoing failure of Moldovagaz to meet payment obligations, which constitutes a significant breach of their agreement.

Before the end of 2024, Moldova could have reserved some gas through the Trans-Balkan pipeline, but this option is now closed.

In Transnistria, Tiraspolenergo stated that exceptions would be made for medical and social institutions with inpatient treatment, but residential buildings will retain gas only for cooking purposes.

As Russia has halted gas supplies through all other potential routes, residents have been advised to keep warm by using electric heaters, covering windows with blankets, and refraining from attempts to restore gas supply on their own.

Additionally, the Moldovan GRES, which switched to coal usage after the cessation of Russian gas supplies, has now reported that it has only about 52 days' worth of coal left.

This station, which previously provided nearly 90% of Moldova's electricity, is facing an energy crisis. The government of Chisinau is urgently seeking alternative energy solutions to avoid a complete shutdown of electricity supply.
