1. Shaded Areas
Raspberries are a light-loving crop. Their bushes require ample sunlight to grow and bear fruit actively. Planting them in the shade will adversely affect their development, resulting in a meager harvest and small berries.
2. Acidic Soil
Raspberries do not thrive in acidic soils. If there is no other suitable spot on your property, you must prepare the soil in advance. This can be done using soil amendments like dolomite lime or agricultural lime to help neutralize acidity.
3. Low-Lying Areas
Low-lying areas are another unsuitable location for planting raspberries. Water stagnation, common in such regions, can lead to root rot, stunted growth, and even plant death. It is better to choose elevated spots with good drainage for raspberries.
4. Areas with High Groundwater Levels
Raspberries cannot tolerate excessive moisture. If groundwater is close to the surface, the plant's root system will be constantly in a wet environment, which poses a risk to its health. Keep this factor in mind when selecting a planting site.
5. Near Large Trees
Large trees compete for nutrients and moisture. Additionally, their dense canopy casts shade, which is extremely unfavorable for raspberries. To avoid these issues, plant the bushes away from massive tree neighbors.
