The increase in fare is justified by several factors, including the rise in electricity prices, the considerable number of employees required to operate the metro, and the urgent need to modernize the rolling stock.
These factors have placed significant financial pressure on the metro's operations.
Currently, passengers pay only 8 hryvnias per trip, and even then, many are exempt from payment due to various subsidy programs. As a result, the city is forced to cover about 75% of the metro's operating expenses from the municipal budget, which imposes a substantial financial burden on Kyiv's resources.
