Main Changes in the Rules:
- Euro-6 Environmental Standard. From now on, only vehicles that meet the Euro-6 standard are allowed to be imported into the country.
- Year of Manufacture. Only vehicles produced after 2015 are permitted for import.
Previously, the requirements were much more lenient: it was allowed to import vehicles that met Euro-2 standards and higher, meaning cars manufactured since 1996.
Why Were the Rules Changed?
The introduction of new standards was planned earlier, but due to the military situation, their implementation was postponed multiple times. The tightening of requirements aims to reduce environmental impact and improve the quality of the country's vehicle fleet.
Which Vehicles Are Affected by the New Rules?
The new requirements pertain to the following types of vehicles:
- Tractor units for semi-trailers.
- Buses.
- Trucks.
- Special vehicles (cranes, tow trucks, etc.).
- New passenger cars undergoing first registration in Ukraine.
Who Receives Exceptions?
Some vehicles are exempt from the new rules:
- Passenger cars imported or manufactured in Ukraine before December 31, 2024.
- "Euro-billets" and electric vehicles.
- Vehicles imported as humanitarian aid or for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What Do These Changes Mean for Ukrainians?
The tightening of requirements will affect the choice of vehicles for import, as well as the availability of more modern and environmentally friendly models. Owners of used cars will need to consider the new regulations when planning to purchase or import vehicles into Ukraine.
