Speaking at a special YES meeting in Kyiv, the minister emphasized the significance of this step in enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities. He noted that the transfer of the aircraft was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Denmark and the Netherlands.
“Discussions on this matter were lengthy, but we managed to achieve a result,” said Poulsen.
The head of the Danish defense ministry also urged European countries to take more active roles in providing military assistance to Ukraine. According to him, it is now essential not only to continue support but also to significantly increase investments in the defense sector.
“Europe must do more by strengthening its ties with Ukraine and increasing investments in military potential,” he stated.
The delivery of F-16 fighters has become a crucial part of the program to bolster the Ukrainian Air Force. These aircraft will enable Ukraine to significantly enhance its air defense capabilities and strengthen protection against aerial attacks. The remaining seven jets are expected to be transferred within the year, completing the delivery program from Denmark.
The F-16s being supplied to Ukraine are undergoing modernization and adaptation for combat conditions. Additionally, Ukrainian pilots are receiving training to effectively utilize these aircraft in real-world scenarios. Meanwhile, Western partners continue to provide technical support to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the fighter jets in Ukrainian airspace.
