For instance, on October 30, 2024, fish patrol officers in Dnipropetrovsk uncovered 6 individuals who were massively destroying aquatic resources at the Southern Reservoir near the village of Veseloe in the Kryvyi Rih district.
The individuals were catching fish from wooden boats using 13 nets with a total length of 1.7 km. As a result, the violators caught 1,104 kg of fish. The catch of the fish marauders included 350 silver carps, 13 breams, and 1 carp. The total amount charged to the poachers for damage to fish stocks was nearly 1.3 million UAH.
Protocols for administrative offenses under part 4 of article 85 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses were drawn up against the violators. In addition, a investigative-operational group from the National Police was called to the scene. Currently, the question of opening a criminal case under article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal fishing or harvesting of aquatic resources) is being considered. The boats and fishing gear have been seized by the investigator. The illegally caught fish has been transferred to a business entity with which a responsible storage agreement has been concluded.
