In Dnipro, two brothers were sentenced to 15 and 16.5 years in prison for the brutal murder of a taxi driver and the theft of his vehicle. This information was reported by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Main Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Region, as stated by "Vidomo".

The brothers were sentenced back in 2022, but only now have prosecutors managed to secure the desired punishment for the criminals. The court imposed a 15-year prison term with property confiscation for one of the brothers. Considering that the other man had an outstanding sentence for theft, he will spend 16.5 years behind bars.

As the prosecutor's office reminded, in 2016, the brothers killed the taxi driver and then stole his car along with valuable items belonging to the victim.

After calling for a taxi, the men attacked the driver. One of them inflicted numerous blows to the taxi driver’s head and body, as well as stab wounds to the neck, from which the victim died on the spot.

To cover up the crime, they hid the body in a forest strip, set the car on fire, and fled the scene.

In July 2022, the defendants were found guilty of the charged crime and sentenced to 13 and 15 years in prison. However, the prosecutors were dissatisfied with the verdict and appealed to the appellate court.

As a result, the Samarsky District Court upheld the prosecution's position and issued a new verdict - the men were sentenced to 15 and 16.5 years in prison.

In court, the offenders partially admitted their guilt, but the prosecutors proved it completely. Until the verdict comes into legal force, the brothers will remain in custody.
