In the city of Zheltye Vody, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a case of fraud has been uncovered, with an elderly woman being the victim. A 42-year-old local man is suspected of stealing a significant sum of money from the pensioner's account. The total amount of damage has reached nearly 20,000 hryvnias. This information was reported by "Vidomo," referencing the Dnipropetrovsk police.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was acquainted with the victim and would occasionally visit her as a guest. This atmosphere of trust allowed him to commit the crime almost without consequence. During one of his visits, taking advantage of the moment when the pensioner briefly left the room, the man found her mobile phone, which, as it turned out, had banking applications installed, along with her bank cards lying nearby.
It was here that his particular "cynicism" and calculation became evident. The criminal not only stole the cards but also exploited access to the phone, allowing him to change the PIN code of the mobile banking application, thus granting him unlimited access to the pensioner's desired account.
After illegally changing the PIN code, he withdrew cash from the victim's bank account three times at a nearby ATM. The funds obtained were spent by the suspect for his personal needs. Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating all circumstances of the case, determining the full extent of the crime and the possibility of holding other individuals accountable if they are found to be involved.
The suspect is currently under house arrest, awaiting court proceedings.
