A resourceful man rented a van from a resident of Kryvyi Rih and then sold it in Irpin.
Мужчина арендовал фургон у жительницы Кривого Рога, но продал его. Суд вынес приговор.

A resident of Kryvyi Rih rented out her cargo van. However, after some time, the renter sold it and faced legal consequences. This was reported by "Vydomo" with reference to "Pervyi Kryvorizhskyi".

In mid-February 2024, a man found a cargo van Iveco for rent on a free classifieds website. After meeting with the car owner, he signed a contract and paid 9,000 hryvnias for the first month. However, a few weeks later, he sold the truck, causing nearly 145,000 hryvnias in damages.

In court, the man fully admitted his guilt and explained that he was engaged in cargo transportation. In 2024, he decided to work for himself and needed to rent a vehicle for this purpose.

Yes, he found the advertisement. After discussing with the victim's husband, they agreed on a date for him to pick up the vehicle in Kryvyi Rih. To pay for the first month's rent, he borrowed money from acquaintances.

"When I started doing cargo transportation, there were no orders for the first two weeks. Moreover, we were asked to leave our rented apartment. Since he has a family with two children and no money to rent another place, he decided to sell the rented vehicle and partially use the money for renting new housing," the man stated in court.

To do this, he posted an advertisement for the sale and after some time sold the vehicle with the condition to buy it back for 100,000 hryvnias.

After renting a place to live, he had 85,000 hryvnias left, and he asked the vehicle owner to reduce the price by another 15,000 hryvnias to buy back the vehicle and return it. During the time he used it, he only broke the windshield.

The victim explained to the court that her husband was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so the couple decided to rent out the vehicle. They agreed with the renter on a payment of 12,000 hryvnias per month, but he only paid 9,000 hryvnias during the entire rental period.

When it was time to make payments according to the contract, the man informed her over the phone that he had no money and then stopped answering calls.

In mid-April, the renter sent a text message demanding 15,000 hryvnias for the return of the vehicle.

However, the woman did not send the money, as she no longer trusted him, and she reported the vehicle as missing to the police.

After some time, she learned that the vehicle had been sold on March 3 and was now located in Irpin, Kyiv region, from where she retrieved it herself.

"The vehicle was in terrible condition, and significant funds would be needed for its repair, which she, as a kindergarten teacher, did not have," the court document states.

The renter of the van was found guilty of illegal possession of a vehicle (part 1 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

His punishment was set to 3 years of imprisonment, which was replaced with 2 years probation.
