It has now become known that Russians are upgrading their drones, making them even more dangerous. What changes have been made and what do they mean for Ukrainians? Military expert Oleg Zhadanov shared insights on this matter.
The Russians have simplified the "Shahed" engine by acquiring it without a flywheel, which has affected its weight. They are currently attempting to develop a pneumatic catapult for the UAV instead of a gunpowder one. Additionally, the occupiers have constructed the drone's body mostly from polymer materials, which further reduces its weight.
"However, due to these weight reductions, the enemy has increased the combat payload of the 'Shahed'", noted Zhadanov.
Some drones are being equipped with satellite internet capabilities. In particular, the occupiers can install Starlink for real-time communication, allowing these "Shaheds" to conduct reconnaissance while flying over our territory.
Russia is aiming for the maximum number of civilian casualties. Thus, "Shaheds" have emerged, to which the Russians are adding thermobaric munitions.
"This means that even if a person hides behind two walls, the destruction may not be enough to injure or kill them, but a thermobaric or volume-detonating explosion will guarantee their death", Zhadanov explained.
