Officials in Dnipro are suspected of embezzling 5 million hryvnias intended for purchases for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Four individual entrepreneurs and two officials from the housing and utilities departments (KUV) of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia are suspected of misappropriating 5 million hryvnias in purchases for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Eastern Region on Facebook, as conveyed by "Vydomo".

At the end of 2023, entrepreneurs, learning about the need for the KUV of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia to procure large quantities of fuel wood, prepared proposals at significantly inflated prices. They submitted these proposals to the management for consideration and contract signing.

The officials of the housing and utilities departments reviewed these proposals and signed contracts that caused a 5 million hryvnias loss to the state.

To legitimize the embezzled funds, the participants in the scheme withdrew the money in cash.

The officials are suspected of embezzlement, misappropriation of property, or acquiring property through abuse of power while acting as part of an organized group – part 3 of Article 27 and part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as money laundering of property obtained by criminal means – part 2 of Article 20 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
